About Us...
Stephen Kelly was formerly the Director of the Centre for Oral History Research at the University of Huddersfield. He pioneered the use of oral history in sport with books on football fans, including The Kop, Red Voices and The Boot Room Boys, and also co-authored an oral history of Coronation Street. His books about the Liverpool manager Bill Shankly formed the basis of the play The Shankly Show, shown as part of Liverpool’s European Year of Culture. He holds a PhD in oral history and is a North West regional organiser for the Oral History Society. He was formerly a journalist and television producer.
Clare Jenkins. Clare’s interest in oral history overlaps with her other role as a journalist and broadcaster for BBC Radio 4. She has previously worked on a number of oral history projects at the University of Huddersfield, where she is Visiting Fellow in Oral History. These projects include Asian Voices and The Two Minute Silence. She is the author of a number of books on oral history, including Relative Grief and A Passion for Priests, and is also a Yorkshire regional organiser for the Oral History Society. She lives in Sheffield and teaches Journalism at Sheffield Hallam University.
Karen May is a qualified, full-time Youth and Community Worker, and has an MA in the Practice of Community Education. During the past 15 years, Karen has worked alongside a wide range of communities and organisations across the country. She was formerly employed as the North West Regional Development Manager for two of the UK Lottery distributors - including the Heritage Lottery Fund. Karen has directly advised on over 100 successful heritage projects and specialises in coaching and developing grassroots heritage projects that include oral history. She is currently completing an MA in Oral History at the University of Huddersfield.
